Custom Home Builder Trends

Custom Home Builder Trends

The customer, or client drives custom home construction.  Many decisions are made throughout the course of construction and the client has the opportunity to change their mind quite a bit.  Building a custom home is a difficult task for both owner and builder, but it’s nothing a bit of planning and execution can’t fix. Influence from books, magazines, TV shows and ads are ever present and it’s no surprise the custom home industry is growing fast and changing fast.  Custom home building in South Florida is no exception.

Many different custom home trends have been showing up at planning meetings between builder and owner, but a few have stuck out.  These trends are marked by convenience and expense while taking advantage of more sustainable ways of building.  These have added value to the home in both resale and equity.  UBACK Construction is uniquely positioned to offer these building components as part of our standard practice.

Going Green

There is a growing desire to conserve and the custom home building industry has jumped on board to provide for this movement.  Green building techniques and materials, in addition to energy efficiency have been gaining popularity over the past 15 years or so.  Custom home builders are integrating the reuse of materials, the conservation of materials and composite materials that have been recycled and repurposed.  These materials use less fossil fuels for production.  Solar energy and insulation also contribute to conservation.  In building a custom home clients can control what products and designs go into construction while desiring environmentally friendly designs incorporated.

That’s Smarts

With the client’s control it only seems right for smart technology to be integrated into a custom home.  Homes that were once filled with structured wiring in the walls have been replaced with wireless smart technology.  Crestron and Control 4 systems control audio and visual devices along with components from Amazon and Google pulling information and commands from the “Internet of Things.”  These systems allow owners to control lightbulbs, thermostats, stereo and Bluetooth speakers, window shades and more through a smartphone or voice command.

“UBACK Construction offers many different options when it comes to low voltage and audio/video integration” says Jared Utterback, President, “We have a tiered system that easily identifies a client’s needs and budget with regard to smart home technology and automation.”

Conservation

Energy efficiency is also a major concern for owners when planning a custom home build.  Rising energy costs have fueled the expansion of energy efficient technologies and homeowners are including these into their budgets.  ENERGY STAR rated products are a good way to start this process, and most major appliances usually carry this rating.  Other methods that enable the custom home to be more efficient are:

  • LED lighting
  • Spray foam insulation
  • Low-E and insulated windows
  • Variable speed air handlers

UBACK Construction has stayed on top of the trends in our industry and constantly seeks to educate owners on custom home builder techniques.  We want the homeowner to be comfortable with their decisions while providing a great experience in building a custom home.
